The story of André Kostolany, from the beginning.
The turning point
He made his first fortune by short-selling during the 1930s crisis, then fled to the United States in 1940 ahead of the Nazi advance and started over in New York.
The rise
He returned to Europe and became the continent's most renowned stock market popularizer: thirteen books translated into dozens of languages, newspaper columns, packed conferences, and a stock market career spanning over seventy years.
The method
His most famous metaphor: the economy is the master walking, the stock market is the dog on a leash running back and forth but always ending up where the master goes. His recipe against panic: buy solid stocks, take sleeping pills, and don't look at them for years.
Today and the legacy
He died in 1999 at 93, shortly before the bubble he had predicted. In Germany and Italy, he taught entire generations that the stock market is, first and foremost, psychology.
